First Light Fusion

First Light Fusion is the UK’s only inertial fusion company, dedicated to enabling the commercialisation of fusion energy. Alongside its core fusion work, First Light Fusion has developed cutting-edge hypervelocity impact testing capabilities, now available for research and commercial space applications.

It provides experimental and diagnostic capabilities, and its key innovations are:

• Ramped Pressure Amplifier – Ramp compresses planar samples to extreme pressure (500 GPa). Applications in military, nuclear fusion and Warhead Assurance.
• Velocity Amplifier (VIPER) – A technology designed to amplify projectile velocity to >10 km/s, specifically targeting micro-meteoroid and orbital debris (MMOD) research.
