iCOMAT

iCOMAT is a leading manufacturer of advanced composite components for the aerospace, automotive and defence industries. iCOMAT’s proprietary technology – Rapid Tow Shearing (RTS) – is the only existing method to steer composite fibres without defects, and was developed to support fully automated production at high rate. This advanced manufacturing technology unlocks the potential of composite materials by enabling curved fibre composites.

iCOMAT spun out from Bristol University in 2019, and has spent the last 6 years industrialising RTS. The culmination of this work is iCOMAT’s new “Factory One”, a 45,000sq ft state-of-the-art composites production facility offering turn key solutions that meet customer needs from tooling to delivered parts.

iCOMAT works with customers through the full design cycle, from concept, through detailed design, right up to delivery of hardware. This turnkey capability is facilitated by the strong design engineering expertise and world class production facilities at iCOMAT. This expertise is supported by iCOMAT’s AS9100 QMS. The importance of iCOMAT’s technology for the growing UK space industry has been recognised by the UK Space Agency with their award of a £5 million grant to iCOMAT from the Space Clusters Infrastructure Fund. This award cements iCOMAT’s position as a key supplier of composites to the UK space industry
