UKspace and ITN Productions Industry News are co-producing a news-style programme, ‘This is Space’, raising awareness and understanding of the growing space industry in the UK and its pioneering approach to solving global issues and consequently improving people’s lives around the world.

Space impacts our daily lives, enhancing safety on earth, protecting our planet and environment, and improving communications. Farming techniques, food production, energy, critical infrastructure and telemedicine are all beneficiaries of space exploration technologies. 2022 is set to be a ground-breaking year for the UK space sector with Britain expected to make an aerospace breakthrough and become a superpower for space launch from the new space ports in the UK.

Anchored by an ITN Productions presenter from ITN’s London Studio, ‘This is Space’ aims to broaden the general public’s knowledge and understanding, and inspire the next generation of space scientists by showcasing the latest space technologies and capabilities from the leading UK space organisations making significant strides in space innovation. The programme will unite expert voices from around the UK and provide insight into the diverse and varied career opportunities available within the sector.

The programme will combine sector interviews, news items and reporter-led sponsored editorial profiles filmed on location. ‘This is Space’ will premiere during World Space Week in October 2022 and will form part of an extensive communications campaign led by UKspace and ITN Productions.

Will Whitehorn, President of UKspace, said: “UKspace is very excited to work with ITN Productions on this project. The growing space sector and its industrialisation of space will be crucial in the battle against climate change and getting to net zero. In the UK, it is also a success story which continues to benefit the entire UK through developing skills, research, technology and jobs. This activity is an opportunity to share that narrative with a broad audience.”

Nina Harrison-Bell, Head of Industry News, ITN Productions Industry News, said: “It’s incredibly exciting to partner with UKspace to make a programme raising awareness of the UK’s space capabilities. Over the last decade, space has proved to be one of the UK’s fastest growing sectors and with the recent investment in space ports around the UK, we look forward to exploring the game-changing space innovations that will build on the UK’s space legacy.”
