SUMMARY:Space law\, technology and intellectual property: The New Frontier
DESCRIPTION:unique project that brings together industry partners in space technology\, practising lawyers and academic lawyers. The aim of the project is to identify existing and future legal issues in the development of innovative space technology\, and propose solutions to these challenges. The workshop will explore areas of shared concerns between law academics\, practicing lawyers\, and the space technology industry.\nOrganisers envisage having no more than 25 participants representing the leading industries\, law firms\, and universities active in this field. All discussions will be held on the basis of the Chatham House rule\, in order to facilitate an open and friendly exchange of views.\nThe workshop will specifically focus on four key areas:\n\n\n\n \n\nThe interaction between the various regulatory frameworks applicable in Space (e.g. international law\, space law\, UK domestic law). We focus\, in particular\, on the extent to which these frameworks may form a barrier to commercial activities using and/or exploiting the space environment.\n\n\n \n\nThe regulatory requirements for the launching of space objects and controlling/operating space objects within the UK law.\n\n\n \n\nThe application and enforcement of intellectual property (IP) rights in space activities. The focus here is on the challenges posed by the territorial nature of IP law and the fact that space falls outside any state’s territorial jurisdiction.\n\n\n \n\nThe interaction between the enforcement of IP rights and the legal principle of the non-appropriation of Space. The discussion will centre on the compatibility of claiming IP rights over space-related content where space law enforces strict principles of non-appropriation of\, and free access to\, Space.\n\n\n\n\n\n \nPlease register online by by 31 May 2019]]>
