SUMMARY:Reinventing Space Conference 2024
DESCRIPTION:The Reinventing Space conference and exhibition brings together industry\, agency\, government\, financiers\, academia and end-users. The theme of this year’s conference is ‘The Commercial Revolution\, and will feature a keynote address on the first day by UKspace President\, Dr Alice Bunn OBE. \nThe event\, organised by the British Interplanetary Society\, will focus on the key benefits and emerging issues presented by the rapidly growing number of space missions and activities driven by increasing commercial activity. As utilisation of Near-Earth Space accelerates\, resulting from man commercial satellites being launched\, the conference will focus on the likely implications of this revolution over the next two decades; not only for the satellite manufacturers and operators\, but also for the legal\, logistical\, educational and space surveillance communities supporting them. \nThis year’s conference runs across three consecutive days\, with the option to attend any or all three days. Details of the programme will be published here soon. \nOn the evening of 12 November\, RISpace will be hosting the Sir Arthur Clarke Awards and gala dinner. \nFurther information about the Reinventing Space Conference 2024

SUMMARY:Satellite Constellation Regulation Industry Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Constellations present regulatory challenges because of their scale and the length of time taken for them to become fully operational. The large numbers of satellites needed for full coverage can cause congestion in high value orbits at lower altitudes\, increasing the chance of collision. In the context of an impending telecommunications revolution\, which the UK can play a crucial role in shaping\, satellite communications via constellations are likely to become more and more common. \nThe UK therefore needs to develop a clear framework for regulating constellations to give industry more regulatory certainty. This regulation must strike a balance between the UKs ambition to maintain and grow its advantage in the satellite communications market and the safety and sustainability on orbit. \nTo do this\, The UK Space Agency and ADS would like to hold a workshop where industry colleagues can share their views and help formulate the policy outcomes that are being developed to regulate satellite constellations. The areas being covered are as follows: \n\nConstellation definition\nFinance and liabilities\nAltitude separation\nAnti-collision capability\nReliability of decommissioning operations\nMaximum duration of decommissioning for the satellites of a constellation\nTrackability/Data Sharing\nLimitation of optical disruptions of the satellites of a constellation\n\nTo register your interest in attending the workshop\, please complete this form by 18 October\, which asks for your name\, organisation and a brief summary of your interest in constellation regulation. As room capacity is limited\, we will confirm whether we have allocated you a place. \nThe workshop will run from approximately 9:30am until 4:30pm (these timings may change slightly as we refine the agenda). Lunch will be provided.

SUMMARY:RAeS Conference – Leading Global Change through the Earth & Space Sustainability Initiative (ESSI)
DESCRIPTION:There is an urgent need to recognise our shared responsibility for the Earth and space environment and take action to protect it. This Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS) conference will detail the activities being driven by the Earth & Space Sustainability Initiative (ESSI) in this regard\, and how the UK can help to lead global change in this arena. \nESS is funded by the UK Space Agency\, and enjoys ministerial and departmental backing\, and wide-ranging industry support across several sectors. In consultation with many stakeholders\, ESSI is developing sets of Space Sustainability Principles that will facilitate the establishment of the Space Sustainability Standards. These internationally recognised standards will help to drive more responsible behaviour and seek to ensure the sustainable use of outer space across the entire lifecycle of a satellite. This will attract greater and wider investment in the space industry\, providing transparency and confidence to investors\, as well as supporting the development of insurance and licensing. \nConference objectives \nThis event\, from 12-13 March 2024\, will provide the first consolidated update on the ESSI and discuss the need for a truly international effort to implement the initiative’s aims. As part of catalysing action and promoting constructive debate\, the conference aims to: \n\nReinforce the need to move beyond the recognition of space sustainability’s importance\nPresent practical solutions that can drive more responsible behaviour\nDemonstrate ESSI’s progress to motivate further engagement and action\nDiscuss the ongoing implementation\, including challenges\, and emphasise the role of international collaboration in delivering the ESSI’s vision\n\nFurther details and registration
