Space Technology Research Roadmapping and Planning for Europe Symposium

27th February 2014

Summary, Concepts and Objectives The Symposium will bring together key technical experts from space agencies, industry, academia and SME’s to discuss and contribute space technology roadmaps and priorities for the near future. SpacePLAN will fill a gap which exists in the European communities plan on providing a long term (up to 2020) research and technology roadmap for key space technologies using inputs from all stakeholders in Europe and internationally while fostering dialogue and collaboration. SpacePLAN 2020 has thus very clear objectives and a clear plan to achieve them. The objective is to develop a comprehensive white paper which details a research roadmap for the development of five key areas of space research. This objective will be met using a team of international, reputable, world leading institutions in academia, industry and institutional entities for Europe, USA and through a robust, clear four-point implementation plan:

  1. Survey of existing and developing space technologies, missions and agency roadmaps
  2. In depth analysis of five key space technologies/research areas – Guidance, navigation and control, Propulsion, Launch vehicle technology, small satellite and Space exploration
  3. Foster dialogue, knowledge exchange and collaboration through organising three annual international symposia on Space Technology Road-mapping
  4. Developing one of the first comprehensive, international space technology/research roadmaps with a focus on Europe
