Launchpad II Competition briefing

23rd July 2014 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm

  • May be too risky to take forward without any support or that may take them into new innovative areas
  • Will carry out significant elements of the project in the Harwell area.
  • The Technology Strategy Board is funding UK companies – pre-start-ups, start-ups, micro, small and medium-sized businesses – to carry out space-related projects from proof-of- concept to prototyping and user-facing trials. It will fund up to 50% of the total project costs, dependent upon the category of R&D involved. In this competition, the Technology Strategy Board wants applicants to determine a long-term funding strategy to develop a sustainable business. We expect this rationale to determine the size of the project the company applies for. It expects total project costs to range in size from £50k to £400k. An integral part of Launchpad is the offer of support to help applicants raise additional new external finance that we expect will be needed to fully fund the project and its subsequent commercialisation. The competition is aimed at single companies or collaborations between SMEs. To apply, companies should put together a two-minute video proposal outlining their idea. The competition opens for applicants on 30 June 2014 and the deadline for uploading video proposals is noon on 3 September 2014. Shortlisted applicants will then be invited to make a written proposal.
